A medium that has potentially incredible power in changing the world, in creating empathy, in telling stories and helping people see lives — both real and imagined — that are not their own. Film has a way of captivating, intrancing, and transporting us that is as yet unmatched among the arts, I believe, in terms of immersion. I seek to use those tools to immerse people as much as possible in whatever story, whether true (such as documentaries, weddings, or events) or a vision (such as fictional films, music videos, or advertisements). Cohesion of vision and conviction of effort shine through no matter the genre.
I worked directly for Google for a time, in the Ann Arbor office. I was trained rigorously for a full month before starting the job, and got the highest score of all hires on the proficiency test. I worked with thousands of accounts, from multi-billion dollar multinational corporations, to small and local stores. Though I obviously cannot discuss the details of any of the accounts I dealt with, from working with that many different accounts of all sorts, I know what works and what doesn't — no matter your scale. I currently freelance Adwords work, and have had clients around the Ann Arbor area. I also have much experience working with social media advertising and promotion, through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram; and using Google Tag Manager, Analytics, and Data Studio to help with SEO or to augment advertising efficacy.
I've made many sites (including this one!) using HTML5, PHP, CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL. For said creation, I use a mix of Bootstrap Studio, Pinegrow, Pingendo, Dreamweaver, Muse, Google Cloud Shell, and plain ol' HTML text editing...as well as Wordpress, Squarespace, and Wix. The stylization (and, more importantly, professionalism) of your site is incredibly important in how people react to you; and if they choose to shop with you, donate to you, write grants for you, hire you — or any number of interactions that you seek. Crafting a website that carefully reflects who you are (and what you do) will almost always be a necessary cornerstone of your business, and bring in thousands (or millions) of dollars more than you otherwise would have.
Armed with a Cannon 60D and various fixed-focal and zoom lenses (of FD, EF, and Arri Cinema mount), I seek to separate subject from background focally, emotionally, and thematically, or to blend all together until every part is as integral and natural as any other.
I specialize in portrait and event photography — though if you need something else, let me know! And if I can do it for a good cause or in a way that helps people or nonprofits, even better!
I have designed the logos for many local businesses and institutions — including All Hands Active, ArtWorks, and Errant Nomad Productions.
I believe very strongly in the consistency of branding, and make sure that iconography, fonts, and colors all match across all platforms and convey the intended feeling.
For example, on the mobile version of this site, I have used all Material Design icons (open source, from Google's material.io site) and Roboto font to make the site feel as much like a native app as possible. All colors are matched via Hexcode to my logo, and spacing and allignment are done to Material Design spec.
I believe that a very important revolution has been taking place since the late 19th century — one that is truly transformative and has affected our culture, our effective capacity for empathy, and our ability to collaborate and create great things.
Film, photography, and the internet have been able to convey our thoughts and messages like nothing else before; and with this power, the complexity and depth of stories we can tell has increased exponentially. I think that the capacity of these tools has not nearly been reached...and that therefore in every instance of every manifestation, each can be iterated upon, improved, and made unique in a great way. All art is informed by other art — but my ability to create something completely individual is not hindered, but rather empowered by that fact. Every piece of work that I create, no matter the medium, has the ability to reflect whatever you want it to while being inspiring and approachable.
Caught adrift in a sea of social conventions and cultural norms that never ceases to amaze, I seek to provide an outlet for the exquisite and absurd. There are many stories in the world that are not told (or told rarely in smaller circles) because they are deemed not relatable enough, or too fringe in manner of content or unorthodoxy of presentation. I try to tell those stories, when I can, or allow those who are making them a creative outlet in order to do so.
Adam's intentionality is remarkable: from selecting the right lens to the placement and framing of a shot, Adam is deliberate and careful in his method. I was impressed by his ability to weave together both my vision and his own creativity in the process.
Being there for the creation and launch of this website has proven to me the level of dedication and eye for detail that Adam puts into all of his work. Outstanding work from an upstanding guy.
When you’re looking to hire an outsider for a project you hold close to your heart, you need someone you can trust — to put their best foot forward and to care about the final outcome as much as you do. With Errant Nomad, I assure you, you’re getting just that.
